Is there no-one who thinks that Sunderland will survive the drop at the end of the season?

Along with a few others, Paul Merson has been speaking to Sky Sports and he feels it’s the end for the Black Cats.

With manager Gus Poyet gone and Dick Advocaat in place hoping he can steer the club to safety, you would hope for a bit of optimism from fans and pundits, but not in this case.

Sunderland have won just one game since the turn of the year in the league and just four games have been won by the club since the season started. And with just 23 goals from 30 games, you wouldn’t get very good odds if you wanted to bet on Sunderland being a Championship side next season.

Merson has assessed the chances of all the clubs involved in the relegation battle and along with Leicester and QPR, he feels Sunderland will go.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I think they [Sunderland] will go down. They are not scoring goals, they are not playing well, the manager has come in and he doesn`t know this league. I think he will find it very difficult.’
