Saturday’s game at Crystal Palace will be refereed by Lee Probert unless there is a late change.

Probert has been part of the Select Group of referees since 2007, before that he was a referee in the football league for 11 years.

Since joining the select group, Probert has taken charge of the 2010 FA Trophy Final and was fourth official for the 2011 FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Stoke City.

In 2010, he became a FIFA-listed referee and is now eligible to officiate UEFA Internationals, Champions League and Europa League games.

The last time he took charge of a game involving Sunderland was that disastrous Monday last April when the Black Cats lost 6-1 at Aston Villa. That day Probert showed yellow cards to Carlos Cuellar, Danny Rose and Phil Bardsley, while Stephane Sessegnon was sent off after 70 minutes.

This season Probert has only been in charge of one game and has shown no cards, last season however he took charge of 34 games, showed 105 yellow and six red cards. His career record for the Premiership is 118 games, 319 yellow cards and 20 red.

The assistants on Saturday will be R Ganfield and, M Scholes. The fourth official will be R East.
