Aston Villa Boss Paul Lambert saw his side pick up another red card, their third in four games, then said that his side are not dirty.

It always is bad luck when you pick up so many cards in such a short time, this one went to Fabian Delph, he put in a rash challenge on Jordi Gomez and just for a second there was something exciting about this bore draw.

‘We’re not a dirty team, we don’t have anyone really who is a dirty player.’ – Paul Lambert.

In the last few weeks Villa have seen red cards shown to Kieran Richardson, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke, although Abonlahor’s card was rescinded.

Lamber told reporters:‘We’re not a dirty team, we don’t have anyone really who is a dirty player, look at the lads who have been sent off – they are not malicious at all. he added as his nose grew bigger.

In all fairness I suppose if that red card that Delph picked up had been shown to a Sunderland player I might have been a bit aggrieved myself, it was certainly worth a yellow, maybe a red was pushing things a bit far.

But then again, it was Atkinson in charge and you should allow for bouts of stupidity from him before making a tackle.

Lambert carried on: ‘It doesn’t look great but the lads are committed to the challenge. Gabby’s one wasn’t that but Kieran’s I understand because his studs were showing. Benteke was provoked as I said at the time.’

Even Gus Poyet was a little sad for the man that he has worked with before at Leeds. He told the press that Delph was unlucky, but you cannot go around sticking your studs in an opponents ankle, and that must be in the rules because Gus has read them.

He sympathised: ‘Sometimes players can make three or four fouls and get a yellow and Fabian makes one tackle and if it looks a little dangerous he gets a red.

‘It’s unlucky but saying that if you see it and stop the video and see the studs in his ankle, if it’s another three inches up it could be a broken leg.’

See? Knows his stuff does our Gus.
