Sunderland will play the last few games of the season without the services of Wes Brown and Jordi Gomez.

Gomez has a suspected fractured kneecap which he picked up in training, while Brown misses out, also to a knee problem and there is also bad news in that Jack Rodwell misses the game against Leicester City on Saturday due to a hamstring injury.

Its definitely a blow for Sunderland who are only just clear of the relegation zone with just three matches to go, including away games at Arsenal and Chelsea.

Speaking to reporters, boss Dick Advocaat said: ‘We have some problems, Jordi Gomez, Jack Rodwell and Wes Brown will not be involved.

‘John O’Shea is back and so is our Italian friend, Emanuele Giaccherini.

‘O’Shea trained on Thursday and Friday but Wes gave so much last weekend that he needs a little break.

‘He has some problems with his knee and we don’t know exactly how long it will take, but Jordi will be out for at least six weeks so both are probably out for the season.”
