Daryl Murphy could be on his way to Hull City after a £2.5m fee was agreed.

The Republic of Ireland international will now travel to the KC Stadium to discuss terms and have a medical.

Hull boss Phil Brown told reporters: It`s advanced and we`ve spoken to Sunderland and agreed terms.

“Hopefully in the next 48 hours it might progress to a stage where we can complete a medical.

“It`s an initial fee of £1.5m building up to £2.5m that has been agreed and I hope to meet with him on Thursday. Hopefully by then we`ll have progressed it further.”

Murphy looked set to join Ipswich last week after former boss Roy Keane had a bid accepted for both him and Dean Whitehead. However, the prospect of remaining in the Premiership could see the striker finally leave the club.

Few Sunderland fans will be disappointed to see Murphy leave the club, the striker has scored 14 goals in 107 league appearances since his £100,000 move from his hometown club Waterford United.
