Grayson – Two Points Dropped Against Hull

Manager Simon Grayson has said he has to look at Sunderland’s trip to Hull City as two points dropped rather than one point game given how the game played out.

James Vaughan scored his first Sunderland goal as he headed home a Callum McManaman cross in the 17th minute, and although the hosts had more attempts at goal than we did and slightly greater possession, Grayson didn’t believe they overly troubled us until David Meyler got an 82nd minute leveller.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media post game, Grayson was hugely disappointed to not see us extend our lead and kill the game off.

ssed further opportunities to extend their lead, with Vaughan and McManaman going closest only for Allan McGregor to stand tall each time.

But former Black Cat midfielder David Meyler made Hull`s late onslaught pay dividends, as his stabbed effort deflected in off Robbin Ruiter to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.

Speaking post-match Grayson delivered his verdict.

‘When you look at how we dominated the game in the first half, the chances we created we were disappointed to have not won the game. We had to stay strong and we were probably hanging on at the end. There were a lot of tired lads out there who have not played a lot of football over the last few weeks and months and they were on their last legs.’

Grayson went on to say.

‘We wanted to break the cycle of four straight defeats. Of course, we are disappointed to have not won the game, we had some great opportunities and the keeper made a great save from Callum McManaman. Ultimately, for all the pressure they had on us it was a deflected goal that equalised for them. We are disappointed and it is a disappointing dressing room because we felt we should`ve won the game this afternoon.’

Hopefully with the losing streak over with, that boost will at least see a positive performance against Everton in the EFL Cup but the focus has to be getting back to winning ways when we face Cardiff City next weekend.
