Everton have a good recent record at home, and are unbeaten in their last six home games, winning five of them.

On the other hand it’s no shock to say that Sunderland aren’t in good form, having won only twice away all season. In the last six games, the Wearsiders have conceded 11 goals in these games, registering only 2 in reply.

Vital Quotes:

Caretaker manager Kevin Ball,

‘I am aware we could be relegated this weekend but I am not worrying about that. I am just concentrating on the Everton game and getting three points because if we do that it does not matter what West Brom do later on as we will live to fight another day.

‘A lot of people presume the atmosphere in the changing room is going to be like a morgue with everybody walking around downhearted. At times you can understand some people being like that because of what has happened this season but, to be fair, it is not the case with the players. They come in bright and breezy, which you expect because we are still in a great profession with a great club and there are still points to be won.’

Everton Team News:

Nuno Valente and Alessandro Pistone are out injured for Everton while Andy Van Der Meyde is suspended following his sending off in the Merseyside derby.

Mikel Arteta, who missed that match with a back injury, will face a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Alan Stubbs will retain his place after impressive performances at the back for Everton. Shame he couldn’t reproduce that form here on Wearside.

Player to watch: Alan Stubbs

Came to Sunderland with a good reputation and vital experience, expected to be the rock at the back and integral to our survival. Left merely 6 months later after showing barely anything of his talents. Will no doubt have a blinder.

Sunderland Team News:

For the second week running Julio Arca faces a late fitness test on his hamstring to see if he can make the team while striker Stephen Elliot remains sidelined.

Danny Collins, Christian Bassila, Ben Alnwick and current captain Stephen Caldwell are also all struggling to shake off knocks.

Player to watch: Kelvin Davis

A recent stark improvement from his displays earlier this season, Davis has made some fine saves to keep the score down in some recent matches. Still not confident enough to commmand his box however, he will no doubt be severely tested once again this week as Everton look for goals.
