Dick Advocaat is the man who will be given the job of saving Sunderland from the drop into the Championship at the end of this season.
The Black Cats have made the Dutchman their number one target after sacking Gus Poyet after training on Monday following an humiliating defeat at home to Aston Villa the previous Saturday.
But it wasn’t just the Villa result that saw Poyet have to leave, a string of poor results this season saw his demise with just one win since the turn of the year.
That has left Sunderland fourth from bottom of the league and just one point above the relegation zone.
Advocaat revealed the news to Dutch football magazine Voetbal International on Monday.
“I am now in a dark hotel, but soon I`ll be working in the Stadium of Light.”
He also told AD Sportwereld: “This is something I always wanted to do, the Premier League. The Premier League is a phenomenal competition.
“As a manager, that is where you want to work, it has such a pulling power.
“Saturday, West Ham awaits. And then there`s the international break. And then – the derby with Newcastle United. That is really something to look forward to because, believe me, this is just a very big club.”
Advocaat is expected to be offered the job at the Stadium of Light on a short term contract until the end of the season, it will be his first job since he resigned as manager of Serbia four months ago.
While at Rangers, Advocaat won two league titles, two Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup.
He has also won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Zenit Saint Petersburg, plus the Eredivisie with PSV.

Cant say that I’m happy, at 67 year old he is past his sell by date
Hope this is not a massive mistake, could well be the final nail in the coffin
Advocaat would be a good short term appointment. He has experience in Britain with Rangers and he’s a good man manager by all accounts.
