Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has picked up a £8,000 fine with love from the FA, for having the gall to tell referee Martin Atkinson that he could improve the way he ran things.
Di Canio had admitted a charge of misconduct after he was sent to the stands by Atkinson after the Italian had invited him to ‘complete a perfect job’ and send him off.
So Atkinson did.
It was one bungle after another from Atkinson who first disallowed a perfectly good goal to bring play back for a Sunderland free-kick, totally ignoring the advantage which the home side got from carrying on.
Then he only showed Sagna a yellow card when a red would have been a much more fitting punishment.
An FA statement read: ‘Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has been fined the standard penalty of 8,000 after he admitted an FA misconduct charge in relation to his behaviour during his side’s game against Arsenal on Saturday 14 September 2013.’
A brief Sunderland statement said: ‘He (Di Canio) is free to take his place on the touchline when Sunderland visit West Brom this weekend.’
