Sunderland have Crewe Alex youngster Max Clayton on trial with the club, but reports coming out of Cheshire saying that he has signed are well wide of the mark.

The 19-year-old forward is out of contract at Gresty Road and although he has made it clear that he wants to leave the club, he cannot walk away on a free transfer because of his age.

Crewe are entitled to compensation should he sign for the Black Cats, but at the moment, no transfer discussions have been opened between the two clubs.

There are reports that a Million pound deal is set to go ahead, but according to the Crewe Chronicle, no such deal has taken place.

Clayton is going to be a star of the future, he is Nantwich bred and has made his way with Crewe to the first team, making more that 100 appearances, he is also an England youth international and has helped Crewe twice at Wembley.

Now dont get me wrong here because I do no that youngsters are the future, but shouldn’t we be concentrating on getting in experienced players for now? The future is important but we need help before the start of the season.

Cant always have a club that relies on old has beens, eventually you have to start with youngsters and if this lad has been through the Crewe accademy then he is good. Many famous players have come from there.
