Sunderland football club have made it very clear that any approach from Southampton to get Gus Poyet will be fought off.
The Uruguayan is the early favourite with the bookies to make the move to St Marys when Mauricio Pochettino takes over at White Hart Lane.
Poyet is now hot stuff, he cooly steered Sunderland away from certain relegation at the very last minute when relegation had been accepted by a lot of the fans. But he never gave up.
Poyet has also spent four years with Brighton so he is used to it down on the south coast, and he is also an admirer of the Saints’ style and set up, pointing out that he would like to see Sunderland mirror them earlier in the season.
No doubt a lot will depend on talks which Poyet is to have with Ellis Short about how he would like to see some things changed in the running of the club.
