Steve Bruce looks set to step up his search for a new striker with the signing of Mohammed Abdellaoue from Norwegian side Vålerenga in a deal rumoured to be in the region of £4 Million.

Vital Football sources have had it confirmed that the forward is today on wearside to tie up the deal, making the forward the first player to join Sunderland since the arrival of Steve Bruce as manager.

The 23 year old forward has a prolific scoring record in the Norwegian top flight with 53 goals in just 114 games.

He would defiantly provide some much needed competition for places at Sunderland, with Kenwyne Jones the only forward to realistically hope for a starting role at the club next season.

Abdellaoue could be the first of a series of new arrivals at the club with the Black Cats heavily linked with the likes of Peter Crouch, Darren Bent and Robbie Keane in recent weeks.
