Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has indicated that his whole transfer policy has been blown apart by form and injuries.

Bruce expected the next transfer window to be quiet and looked to only bring in 3 to 4 quality players. However, with a run of four points from the last 11 games he has seen his club fall from 6th all the way down to 14th in the league table.

Sunderland only have Ryan Noble as a fit striker and we still have three games remaining in this season! Bruce has admitted he needs to sign more like eight players in order to continue to push the club forwards.

Bruce said: “I might need as many as six or seven players in the summer.

“We always knew that the loan players would go back to their clubs, with the exception of Elmohamady who we think will be staying.

“We have been a striker down since Darren Bent left in January.

“There`s a lot of work to do to strengthen the squad because we have seen how injuries have taken their toll on us and the effect they have had on our season.

“But at some point soon I will sit down with the owner and with the chairman Niall Quinn and make plans for the summer and see who we can bring in.”
