It’s been confirmed that Sunderland defender Wes Brown will serve a two match ban following his sending off at the weekend.

The 34 year old was shown the red card by referee Mike Jones after bringing down Hull’s Shane Long as he bore down on goal in the opening minutes of the game.

The red was Brown’s third of the season after picking them up against Stoke and Norwich although his red card against Stoke was subsequently overturned by the FA on appeal.

Brown receives a standard one-match ban for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, as well as an additional game due to his upheld sending off against Norwich.

Brown will now miss the upcoming games against Manchester City and Southampton.
