Sunderland’s on loan striker Fabio Borini is urging the Stadium of Light faithful to stay behind the lads and there was nobody angrier than himself that they didn’t manage to beat Norwich.

The 0-0 draw at home on Saturday did absolutely nothing to improve their chances of staying up as the goals simply dried up.

There were only four shots that they had on target while goalkeeper Vito Mannone was kept busy keeping out good efforts from the visitors.

Speaking to the Sun, Borini said: ‘I’m angry because we want to win and we can’t do it in the league.

‘At home, we need to show more character and control to win. The fans need to stay with us.

‘It’s up to us if we stay up or not. The other teams don’t win the games for us.’

Sunderland’s next three fixtures are hard games; they face Everton and Cardiff and then Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
