Well there`s one manager that can be crossed off the list as Ricky Sbragia`s successor if he leaves the club in the summer. There has been constant speculation regarding Sbragia`s future ever since he was hired on a full time basis and Louis van Gaal has been linked heavily during the last few weeks. However, the Mackem`s uncertain Premiership future has allowed Bayern to pounce, hiring van Gaal on a two-year contract, replacing Jurgen Klinsmann as manager.

The 57-year-old van Gaal would have been a major coup for the Black Cats. He leaves AZ Alkmaar after winning the Eredivisie title this season and previously managed Ajax, Barcelona and the Dutch National side.
