Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley is heading his way to a new contract with the Black Cats even though he was told a short time ago that he had no future at the Stadium of Light.
Paolo Di Canio did not want anything to do with the ex-Manchester United full back and some comments that the player made and also his antics did not do him any favours with some of the Sunderland faithful.
But under the leadership of Gus Poyet, Bardsley seems to be finding his way again, putting in good performances and even going so far as to bag a couple of very important goals for the club.
Bardsley has just eight months left on his current deal and although reports say that he has not yet entered into negotiations with the club over a new deal, it shouldn’t be too long after the international break before a deal will be thrashed out between the two parties.
Bardsley told The Metro: ‘I`d love to stay here, but it`s up to the club.
‘I have to perform. In the last two games I`ve found some form and now I have to continue that form. I need to continue to try and bring some quality to this team and hopefully I can do that.`

Bardsley’s been playing well since he came back into the side. If he keeps this up there’s no harm in renewing.
He always starts to play a bit better when his contract is coming to an end.
