Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat was not too upset after seeing his side go down 1-0 to West Ham United at the weekend.

A single goal from Diafra Sakho in the 88th minute was enough to give the Hammers the full quota of points and making it played one, lost one for Advocaat.

But despite the Black Cats falling to another defeat which now makes 13 games without a league win, Advocaat still seemed positive.

He told reporters: “Some heads were down in the dressing room after the way the game ended but there are positives to take and we can take confidence from our performance.

“Jermain [Defoe] had a great chance early in the game, if he had scored that it would have been completely different, West Ham would have had to come at us a lot more.”

Next game for Sunderland is against Newcastle United and it should be a memorable clash with both sides looking for the maximum three points.

Advocaat added: “We looked better and we`ve still got some players to come back into the squad.

“The international break is very good timing, it gives me the chance to work more with the players.”
