Young forward Connor Wickham has been given a boost having undergone a scan on his injured knee.

The 18 year-old forward underwent a scan on the injured knee yesterday and revealed on Twitter that the damage was not as bad as first feared:

@Connorwickham10 ‘Scans showed injury not as bad as first thought, waiting to see a knee specialist later in the week.’

Though Wickham could still be sidelined for a little while, the international break couldn’t have come at a better time for the England U21 international who will be benefit from the break.

It does however provide yet another striking problem for Steve Bruce in the short-term however with Ji Dong-Won the only senior backup to Nicklas Bendtner now.

Bruce will have to decide whether he risks throwing the South Korean forward in from the start against Fulham or uses Stephane Sessegnon behind the big Dane. However, with Seb Larsson suspended for the Cottagers visit Sessegnon will surely be needed in his more familiar wide midfield role.
