Ask any Sunderland fan what they now think of Darren Bent after he turned his back on the club that revitalised his football career.
After Harry Redknapp slated him missing an open goal, Steve Bruce came to Bent’s rescue and offered him a chance to start performing at the highest level again.
His first season with SAFC resulted in him winning the North East writers player of the year award along with 25 goals.
England manager Fabio Cappello noticed his scoring ability and even quoted him ‘having a bright future for England’. So why has Darren joined a club 17th in the league when he clearly enjoyed being a Sunderland player.
What has went on in the background? How can a player who last month said he wanted to become a Sunderland legend suddenly want £30k extra a week and hand in a transfer request?
Has his agent forced all of this? By the look on Darren’s face in his unveiling as a new Villa player he hardly looked ecstatic at joing Houllier’s new regime.
Bent said today as he turned his back on Sunderland: ‘People have asked why I swapped a top six club for one currently in the bottom four. But I believe Villa are in a false position, they have been sixth for the past three seasons, and it is a new challenge for me.”
It seems to make no sense but no player is bigger than the club and we can now move on with £24m at our disposal.
This money can go towards three to four new quality players in the crusade to finish in the top six this campaign.

Look I can see why everyone is upset. As a Villa fan the thing that is annoying me most is that it is making many people on both sides (not just fans but club staff) act like children and making a bit of a show off them selfs. If it was not Villa but Man City or Chelsea that bought Bent no one would be kicking up half as much. The constant accusations of tapping up and dirty play from Bruce are the lowest point. Really lost respect for him on this now three days in a row the rants and slander. This deal was done quickly, Niall Quinn named his price and Randy paid it. That is not tapping up Tapping up is what the Pool tried to do to us for Barry and Man City did the same for Milner leaks in the press aimed to unsettle and then draging it out to try and bully down the price. Best of luck for the rest of the season but both sides now need to just let it rest before someone does something they regret.

Sky sports have shown you still owed spurs £16 million for him he wasnt bought for the £10mill previousley thought thats why Brucie baby has spat his dummy out and said he cant go out and spend the 18/20mill cos youve paid spurs off what you owed them as you never paid the money in the 1st place to sign him, this happands its football guys oh and good luck replacing a 20 goal plus striker cos you’ll need it!
Oh i must also add, How can sunderland be compared to size of ASTON VILLA? not being biast but look up you r history, honours and top flight status, one season doesnt make you great as the newcastle fans found that out.
