Sunderland Captain Dean Whitehead is looking to put this weekends loss behind him with a win over local rivals Newcastle.

Whitehead told the Sunderland Echo “We never really got going – we didn’t do the basics right from the start and you can’t do that in the Premier League and win games.”

“We have to put it right quickly – we have to bounce back quickly and show the same resilience we have done all season.”

“As disappointed as we were here, we just have to get out on the training pitch and focus on Sunday’s game.”

“There’s still lots of football to be played and we are not safe yet. We still have a big job to do and we need to be focused on that.”

“The manager has always said that we have a big job to do. There’s plenty of points to play for and plenty of work to make sure we are still playing in the Premier League next season.”

What better way to put this defeat behind us than to beat the Mags on their home soil.
