Finally! Darren Bent took his chance for England as he replaced the injured Jermaine Defoe in the second half.

Bent who scored in the 88th minute with a left foot blaster past the Swiss goalkeeper will be returning back to Wearside with a big grin on his face.

Darren, who was snubbed by Cappello, came on and finished the game for England who cruised to a 2-0 victory before allowing Switzerland back into the game in the last twenty minutes.

Earlier for the England U21 two Sunderland stars also shined as they won 3-0 against Lithuania.

Both Jordan Henderson, who created a goal and Danny Welbeck who scored two and made the other played fantastically for Stuart Pearce’s men.

A great day for Sunderland Football Club as Bent became the first player to score for the Country since the 1950’s!

Nice one Darren! His earlier caps weren’t really caps as he was not allowed to play (snotty Internationals who let England down at the World Cup would not play him in). Also great for Jordan Henderson.

Chuffed to bits for Bent and, by the look on his face, I think Capello was too.

Given that they say Bent hasn’t scored in 8 games I feel takes away from the lad take into consideration he has only played 2-3 full games the rest have been short appearences with no chances given for a goal because of poor team performances but the lad deserves the goal and maybe now Capello can start him and play the full 90
