Westwood Ponders Sunderland Exit

Keiren Westwood looks as though he’ll be leaving Sunderland this summer, with him admitting a frustration at his lack of first team football.

When Shay Given retired from international football Westwood stepped up as his replacement, however with Simon Mignolet keeping him out of the side at club level this has resulted in him being ousted for Ireland by David Forde.

The 28-year-old, when asked what his future plans were and if he’d be moving on shortly, said: ‘I’m not too sure. I love it at Sunderland, but if I’m not going to play…

‘It’s a tough decision, but I need to play football, I think that’s evident in itself.’

Without first team football at club level Westwood isn’t going to be playing football at international level, and all the while that Mignolet is at the Stadium of Light he’ll not be getting much of a look-in with Sunderland will he!
