Waghorn, 20, who has been an instant hit with Leicester City, has advised he needs to look for stability in order to improve his footballing career.

Waghorn will still be recovering from his penalty miss during Leicester’s semi final play off this month but aims to get over that dissapointment and prove his potential.

Martyn Waghorn said: ‘I couldn’t tell you about my future.

‘I have been asked about it ever since I scored my very first goal. I don’t know what is going to happen.

‘I am going to go back to Sunderland for pre-season and work hard, and then see what happens and see what offers come in. I am going to play it by ear and work hard wherever I go.

‘It has been great to know that your parent club’s manager is looking out for you and to hear he has such high hopes for me is fantastic.

‘I am not saying I won’t come on loan again but I want to settle down somewhere and get a regular spot.

‘If it means going out on loan again, I would be a little bit disappointed. But, if I get a permanent move or stay at Sunderland, I just want to stay at one place and get my head down, and push on from there.’

Steve Bruce has indicated the young South-Shields forward has a future at Sunderland and will be looking for him to challenge Bent and Jones to break into the first squad next season.
