The EFL Trophy continued with the latest group games played this week.

Premier League and Championship U23 – or are these U21? – sides were involved once again.

Not that all these ‘age group’ sides involved had players entirely falling into that age bracket with several overage players permitted to feature so the aims of ‘young English talent’ being involved in them not exactly the case…

Here’s a round-up of the EFL Trophy results.

There were plenty of goals scored during this round of games, including several incredible games such as Gillingham’s 7-5 victory over Reading’s U21 and MK Dons winning a seven goal thriller at League One rivals Oxford.

Entertainment – as well as goals – was seen in most games but once again the competition failed to attract the fans as the majority of the attendances at games across the country failed to break into four figures, in fact only 248 were at Grimsby and only THREE of these were travelling Sunderland fans.
