Q: When did you become a Sunderland fan and why?

I`ve always been a Sunderland fan as my dad is so I was brought up that way. My first match was at home to Blackburn in the 85-86 season, when I was 8, although it wasn`t until the old Division 3 season of 87-88 that my dad started taking me week in, week out. This was the season that got me hooked.

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

At times it was the worst I`d seen since the Wilkinson era however, history now shows that we have improved since last year. Not as much as I had hoped for (I was looking at a top ten finish) but I remain optimistic that will come next season.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

The best moment was the first 94 minutes of the game at Old Trafford. I couldn`t believe what I was seeing. The worst, barring the blinding obvious winter slump, was the 95th minute of the game at Old Trafford.

Q: Kenwyne Jones… is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Sunderland hold out for?

3 months ago I`d have said he was off in the summer, at a price of around £9-10 million. I`d also have said that we should be happy with that, before his value diminishes even further. However, after a fairly strong end to the season and now that the dust has settled a bit, I think to sell him would be a gamble. I`d like to see him given another season to fulfill his potential and, unless he pushes for a move, I think he`ll stay. I can`t see Liverpool or Spurs coming back with an offer and I can`t see him pushing for a move to Stoke or Birmingham.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Sunderland buy this summer?

Bruce seems to be treating defence as his main priority and I suppose you can`t really argue with that. I think we could do with something a little different up front, a clever link up player. We keep getting linked with Tuncay and although he isn`t prolific I think he`d serve a purpose. We also need more pace in the wide areas, although Riveros might bring that. Shaun-Wright Phillips would be a good addition for me.

Q: Where do you stand on Steve Bruce(I don’t mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I`d love to see him stay for a good few years and be given the chance to really build something. We can all name at least 8 of the top ten each year and next season I`d like to see get the ninth or tenth spot next season. If that happens then I really believe that a few years down the line, with continuity and Short`s continued backing, we can get in amongst those top 8 places and challenge for a European place.

Q: Your opinion of Quinny and Ellis Short?

Words aren`t enough. Quinny is by far the best thing to happen to this club in my lifetime. Godsend. He keeps saying how lucky we are to have Short on board and he`s right, but it`s all thanks to Niall.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Current player – Darren Bent. Simple, he gets the goals. I`m like a 5 year-old in that respect. All time player is Quinn but that`s because of what he`s done in the past 5 years. Purely as a footballing decision, my favourite is SKP. Again, he got the goals. I used to love going to the games and no matter how many were leading by, if Superkev wasn`t on the score sheet then you knew there was at least one more goal to come.

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

Top Ten.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone… which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Miranda Kerr and Joe Mcelderry. I`ll let you work out in which order.

Cheers Gaz

Steve.
