Chelsea will parade the Premier League trophy at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening having been confirmed as champions on Friday, winning at West Brom. A victory in the visit of Watford will be the aim not change what happens with the Blues. Nor will it the Hornets as safety is now assured, which is just as well as the last four has been lost – in fact seven of the last 10 have ended in defeat for Walter Mazzarri’s side.
An Arsenal win in the visit of already relegated Sunderland and the quest for a Champions League spot will go to the final day. The Gunners would also look to boost their goal difference against the bottom-of-the-league side on Tuesday as this could come into play in the season finale?
Manchester City’s bid to finish third, ahead of Liverpool and/or Arsenal, will look all the more likely should City overcome a woefully out of form West Brom side. Despite losing seven of their last 10 games Albion are somehow clinging onto eighth-place heading into this game at the Etihad Stadium.
A top-10 finish would be virtually assured if Southampton can see off the challenge of Manchester United at St Mary’s on Wednesday. Victory for the Saints and they will probably climb up to eighth – United, sixth, have eyes firmly fixed on the Europa League final now as this is the Red Devils’ only route into the Champions League next season.
This Leicester-Tottenham meeting was moved to the Thursday night as the TV executives hoped it would be a game with Spurs, second, still have a chance of claiming the Premier League title. Well, that scenario has now passed but a runners up spot is assured. The Foxes have designs on a top-10 finish, victory at the King Power Stadium would enhance those prospects.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
