David Vaughan is looking forward to working under new manager Gus Poyet and thinks that he is the right man to lead the club out of trouble.

At the moment Vaughan is away on international duty at the moment with the Welsh squad as they prepare to take on Macedonia and Belgium in the World Cup qualifiers.

But even so, Vaughan has been speaking with other people involved in the game and the feedback he is getting about the new boss is nothing but favourable.

The 30 year old told the Sunderland Echo: “It`s a good appointment. Hopefully he can get us off the bottom of the league and improve on performances from the start of the season.

“I don`t know a great deal about Gus but I`ve spoken to a few players who have played with or worked under him and they have had good things to say.”

Vaughan would have been only too pleased to come back into the side under Kevin Ball after Di Canio had left but that was not to be as he was suffering from a minor injury.
