Once again the Sunderland rumour mill is spinning rapidly and this time is has cast out a very unusual name.

Paraguay striker Haedo Valdez has been heavily linked to the Black Cats with Steve Bruce reported to be ready to put a £8million bid for him.

The 26-year old, who is currently at the World Cup in South Africa, plays for German outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Before his move to Dortmund, he played for Werder Bremen where he helped them to win the double and score in the Champions League in the 2003/4 season.

His agent Barry McIntosh has welcomed bids from Premiership clubs and Sunderland look to lead the front running for him.

He said, “Valdez would be great in the Premier League and there is lots of interest.”
