Luis Suarez made the big difference between Liverpool and Sunderland on Sunday when he showed he was back to his sharpest against a brave Sunderland side who gave it a good go.

The Liverpool striker netted twice after Daniel Sturridge had given the visitors the lead to give Liverpool a 3-1 victory in a game that a scoreline like that flattered them.

Sunderland gave it a good go and got back into the game at 2-0 down when Emanuele Giaccherini pulled one back as the home side piled on the pressure.

Liverpool had the ball in the net early on when Martin Skrtel netted from a Steven Gerrard free-kick only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Sturridge did open the scoring just before the half hour mark when Gerrard sent in a corner and the ball came off the striker’s arm and then going into the net.

The in-form youngster then set up Suarez with a tap in from six yards which doubled their lead even though the home side had been playing well.

Sunderland then managed to pull one back with Emanuele Giaccherini who slotted the ball home from a rebound after Simon Mignolet had just made a save.

Both teams pressed forward looking for another and that’s when the visitors were able to counter attack and Suarez squeezed the ball in off the post.
