Sunderland’s U21 side had their second victory against their Manchester City counterparts in two months.

This time Sunderland won the game 1-0, and it was Frenchman Mikael Mandron who was on the mark in the second half, proving again to be a thorn in Manchester City’s side after netting a hat-trick in the last meeting between the two clubs.

The Black Cats had the better of the exchanges in both half’s and had a number of chances to add goals both before and after Mandron had struck.

Carl Lawson, Liam Agnew, Martin Smith, George Honeyman and Mandron again all going close.

After the game, Robbie Stockdale told the Sunderland Echo: “I thought we were very resolute. The shining light of the team was the team.

“We defended very well, worked our socks off from back to front and that saw us over the line in the end.

“They had a couple of flashes across the face of goal, but they`re going to.

“They`re a top, top team. You`re talking about playing against multi-million pound players.

“We stood up to them and it`s the second time we`ve beaten them. We drew with them in the third game so to go unbeaten against Man City for the season is a pretty decent achievement.”
