The silly season has begun. With plenty of players set to be linked with joining the Black Cats over the next few months, it`s time to look at the most recent stories.

First is the news of a player linked with a move away from the club. Goalkeeper Marton Fulop, who surprised many with his performances this season, has been linked with a £1.8m move to Panathinaikos.

Russell Anderson has also been linked with a move away from the club. He spent last season with Burnley on loan, and despite being injured for most of it Owen Coyle is interested in making the loan move permanent.

Sunderland are reportedly ready to battle Panathinaikos, as well as a host of other clubs, for the signature of Serbian international Nenad Milijas.

The 26-year-old midfielder is currently captain of Red Star Belgrade, and has been linked with Wolves, Aston Villa, Roma, Panathinaikos, CSKA Moscow and Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Not for the first time, Sunderland have been linked with Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford. Prior to Beckford`s move to Leeds, then Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy was interested in bring the forward to the club. Newcastle, Birmingham and Coventry have also been linked with a move for the striker.

Valenciennes` Ivory Coast international midfielder Siaka Tiene is another name in the mix with a move to the club.

However, until a new manager has been named, it is unlikely that any player will join the club.
