Reports today suggest that Huddersfield have attempted to bring back former striker Jon Stead on loan till the end of the season.
The young striker is still a favourite at the Galpharm Stadium, having scored 16 goals in League Two during the 2003-2004 season.
Despite not finding the net for Sunderland this term, Stead’s performances have not been too disappointing, suggesting that he could yet be an integral part of a Sunderland side that will attempt to bounce straight back up next term.
For this reason it is very unlikely Sunderland will sanction such a move, and the bid was probably simply a cheeky attempt by Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson whilst discussing full back Dan Smith’s return to Wearside.
With 9 games left this season, Stead will be keen to remain at Sunderland in a bid to score his long-awaited debut goal. The luckless striker will be desperate not to suffer the ignominy of going through the whole season without getting on the scoresheet.
