On Sky

Sunderland`s first game of the season starts with the visit of Spurs. This will be a good test for us, hopefully our enthusiasm, desire and work rate will give us a good result.

Sunderland Team News:

Grant Leadbitter is out for three weeks with hamstring injury
Carlos Edwards, Craig Gordon and Greg Halford are all hopeful

Player to watch: Carlos Edwards

One of Sunderlands best players last season. I can`t wait to see him terrorising the Spurs defence especially when they have no reconised left back.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

All of Spurs left backs Gareth Bale, Young-Pyo Lee and Benoit Assou-Ekotto all have knee and thigh injuries respectively.

Aaron Lennon is out until the end of the month while Ledley King is out until September-October.

Player to watch: Dimitar Berbatov

Spurs top scorer last season with 12 league goals. We will have to contain the Bulgarian if we are to get a result from Spurs.

Match Facts & Stats

Last time at the Stadium of Light we scored a late goal giving us a 1-1 draw
In our 6 Premiership meetings with Spurs at the SOL we have Won 2, Lost 3 and Drew 1.

Ref Watch:

Alan Whiley

Match Prediction:

Lets hope we can start off the new season with a good result. Three points would be nice and as I see it we need to get results from teams like Spurs at home.

1-0 Home win

Need to get results from teams like spurs at home? Things have changed at Tottenham while you were away chaps. Don’t you realise we are part of the ‘big five’ now? ( its true! i kept the sun printed it lol)

A tough opening encounter in anyone’s eyes. A draw though will be enough to lift The Black Cats to TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP, if only for a couple of hours. It’s still a good feeling – Pompey headed the table only last season after 5 games played. I still have that framed over my bar. Strange irony Sunderland is my 2nd team with Spurs my former favourite Premiership side when Pompey and Sunderland were plying their trade in the lower divisions.

Yes a draw would be a good result but I hope spurs underestimate us an a win could be on the cards

I think you´ll win, and considering Spuds are utter shiiite (always has been always will be) it´ll be by an annoying 1-0 win. just to rub it in. 🙂 Best of luck.
