Sunderland could not have asked for a harder game to try and change their fortunes in a poor start this season. Sunderland have only managed one point out of six and now face Manchester City who have yet to concede and are full of World class players.

Steve Bruce will be hoping his clubs home form continues against Mancini’s men but will expect a really tough game.

Man City will be looking to add to their brilliant start this season and will be hopeful of exposing Sunderland’s weak defence.

Vital Quotes:

‘I went to watch them last Monday against Liverpool, when they played fantastically well.

‘The five subs cost £100million and behind me, there were five people sitting in suits who cost £100million too, so that’s what you are up against, that’s what the Premier League is.

‘We are all jealous really, if the truth be known. We would like it washed around and to have a level playing field.

‘But if you look at all of the big clubs, they have all had one thing: the spending power and attraction that makes them a big club.

‘City have catapulted themselves in there. After years and years of being nearly men, now they have catapulted themselves right amongst the big boys of Europe.

‘They have obviously got to win things and win things over the next 20, 30, 40, 50 years to catapult them into the same breath, but they have got an outstanding chance to break into the superpowers.

‘You are judged when you start winning something. They have been going at it a couple of years now and haven’t quite managed it, so it’s a big few years for them.’

Sunderland Team News:

News has broken recently that captain Cattermole could be a big doubt for Sundays game. Turner will return from suspension and wil play alongside Bramble in the abscence of Mensah.

Player to watch: Darren Bent

Sunderland rely on Bent as we continue to add another striker before the deadline on Tuesday. Bent scored 50% of our goals last season and so far he has scored 100% of them this campaign.

Man City Team News:

Defenders Aleksandar Kolarov, Jerome Boateng and Wayne Bridge remain sidelined by injury.

Mancini will also assess the fitness of new boy Balotelli as he recovers from a knee injury.

Player to watch: Adam Johnson

Although Mancini has broke all wage structure and every transfer record to date with some signings, young Johnson still remains their largest threat.

Last season he cruelly scored a last minute equaliser to deny Sunderland a crucial three points. Johnson, who is from the North East has looked class against Tottenham and in Europe and Richardson will have a hard game keeping him quiet.

Match Facts & Stats

The Black Cats’ last victory against City was a 1-0 home win in December 2000. Don Hutchison scored the winner.

Roberto Mancini’s men have failed to win their last three away league games.

Ref Watch:

Referee: Mike Dean

Assistant referees: Simon Beck & Stephen Child

Fourth official: Nigel Miller

Match Prediction:

Sunderland 1 – 3 Man City

Not very confident would be an understatement and with news of Cattermole being a doubt we may be bossed in midfield. If we can grab the first goal we may have a chance but with the stars in their line up a point will be seen as a fantastic result.

Next Fixtures:

Sunderland head to DW stadium, hopefully with a couple of new faces on 11th September against Wigan Athletic.

Excellent result for the lads today. The whole team showed boundless commitment to the cause and there were more positives than Newcastle’s GUM Clinic.
