It was being reported late yesterday evening that Sunderland were in talks with Bury over striker James Vaughan.

Sky Sports were reporting last night that Sunderland had already made a £900,000 offer for the 28 year old who had a successful campaign in League One in 2016/17, as after joining them from Birmingham, he scored 24 times in 37 appearances.

With England Under 17, 19 and 21 caps, he holds the record of the Premier League’s youngest goalscorer apparently – having netted for Everton back in 2005 aged 16 years and 271 days.

With manager Simon Grayson looking for a threat following the departure of Jermain Defoe earlier this summer, Vaughan has Championship experience from a spell with Huddersfield Town where he made 86 appearances, scoring 31 times for them before leaving in 2016.

There’s nothing concrete in these reports yet but one to watch possibly.
