The story broke on the North West Evening Mail website tonight that Sunderland have signed 14 year old Beadling and will keep him in the Academy set up until he is 16 years old.

Tom, originally from Barrow, moved to Australia at the age of one and adopted football over their to become a bright young prospect.

He was selected ahead of 2000 schoolboys to lead the Australia U13’s to a spell of just two defeats in eight games. As he impressed he was made captain of Australia and led them out in the Asia Confederation Cup.

Tom told the Evening Mail: ‘”I was excited to captain Australia but I have always wanted to play for Sunderland.”

All the best to this bright young talent and let’s hope he is the first of many players to come here to start their careers.
