Bournemouth have confirmed that Sunderland have signed defender Marc Wilson on a permanent deal ahead of the transfer window shutting tonight.

The 30 year old joined Bournemouth last summer from Stoke City but he only made three appearances, scoring once, and was loaned out to West Bromwich Albion in January of this year.

His spell at West Brom saw him make four appearances with three being from the start and he arrives at the Stadium of Light knowing Lewis Grabban which should help him settle in.

The Irishman is comfortable playing in defence or midfield and he does carry more than 180 Premier League appearances to his name and he has tasted European action across his career as well, as well as playing in the FA Cup final back in 2011.

He made his debut for the Republic of Ireland back in 2011 and he has 25 caps to his name with the return of one goal.
