Asamoah Gyan’s move to Al-Ain yesterday saw Sunderland re-coup the fee they paid Rennes for the striker in 2010.

The 26 year-old striker cost up to £13m when former boss Steve Bruce signed him two years ago, but was never able to meet the clauses which constituted a large proportion of the deal.

However Sunderland have been able to re-coup their outlay in moving Gyan on for good yesterday.

Last season’s loan move cost the UAE side approximately £6m for the season whilst yesterday’s transfer fee is believed to be around the £6m mark again.

Gyan is set to earn £140,000 a week having completed his move, roughly twice his weekly salary at the Stadium of Light.
