Sunderland make £10 Fletcher bid

According to reports, Sunderland last night lodged an official offer of £10m for Wolves’ striker, Steven Fletcher.

The 25 year-old Scottish international, who Martin O’Neill has chased all summer, looks set for a move to the Stadium of Light if terms can be agreed between the two parties.

It was reported last week that the stumbling block in the deal was the inclusion of a sell-on clause.

Fletcher missed Wolves’ win over Walsall on Saturday prompting fevered speculation from numerous sources that an offer has finally been lodged with the Molineux club.

Speaking to The Shields Gazette, O’Neill spoke of the long-winded process of bringing the former Burnley and Hibernian striker to Wearside:

“We are just waiting because there are prices to be negotiated and these days it takes a long time. It tends to drag on.”

Fletcher has scored 22 Premier League goals in 41 starts for Wolves in his two years with the club, reaching double-figures last term with 12 striker as the Black Country outfit were relegated.
