Sunderland Lose McKinlay To West Ham

Sunderland confirmed on Sunday that Billy McKinlay had now departed the Stadium of Light to take up a coaching role at West Ham United.

Following the speculation over the weekend about his departure, the club confirmed his departure in a brief statement yesterday on the Official Site.

‘Sunderland AFC can confirm that Billy McKinlay has taken up a coaching role with West Ham United. The club would like to thank Billy for his efforts during his time on Wearside.’

The club went on to confirm that caretaker manager Robbie Stockdale would continue in his temporary position as the squad returned to training today as the manager search continues.

The club expect to make a further statement in ‘due course’.

Our joint caretaker boss leaving only intensifies the feeling of chaos surrounding the club at the moment and with him joining back up with former manager David Moyes at the London Stadium.

The weekend also saw speculation linking us with a move for Harry Redknapp, but the Northern Echo suggest that he’s not currently under consideration for the role.
