Sunderland suffered a massive comedown after beating Newcastle last weekend, this Saturday they flopped big style at Hull City.

There was only one goal scored in this drab game of football that was also marred by two sendings off for disgraceful tackles by Sunderland players.

Sunderland had already gone a goal down thanks to Carlos Cuellar who turned a Rosenior cross into his own net while under pressure from Yannick Sagbo.

Hull manager Steve Bruce was the subject of some abuse from the away fans, but that will surely not be bothering him too much this morning after his side picked up the full quota of points from the game.

The first chance of the game went the way of the home side when a 17th minute Huddlestone free-kick was flicked on by Davies, but the ball was just out of the reach of Livermore and McShane.

Then on the 25 minute mark, the hone side took the lead from a throw in that was needlessly given away, Rosenior took the throw-in and received the ball back, enabling him to get in a cross that Sagbo took a swing at and Cuellar headed past Westwood.

Then things got worse for the Black Cats when keeper Westwood was clattered to the ground by McShane, he had to eventually go off and was replaced by Mannone, who was well known to the Hull fans.

The home fans began to take the piss as their side passed the ball to each other with the crowd shouting Ole at every successful pass, this could have wound the lads up a bit but whatever it was there was no excuse for the two tackles that went in.

Cattermole, the man who is used to early baths showed the way when he went flying in with his studs showing on Elmohamady, as the player rolled on the ground in agony, the Sunderland player did not even wait for the referee’s decision and walked off the field of his own accord.

Then with the game in first half injury time, Dossena decided to stamp on Meyler over the top of the ball and Andre Marriner was left no option but to show another red.

Poyet made two changes at the break, Johnson and Wes Brom replacing Jozy Altidore and Fabio Borini.

But it was the home side that obviously looked at ease with the ball with having a two man advantage, Livermore fired a shot over the bar and Boy fired a shot across the goal which was also just wide.

The home side dominated possession but the Sunderland back line held out well and restricted the home side to very few real chances to add to the score, O’Shea and Cuellar both doing very well.

Sunderland did have the odd chance; they saw Johnson fire wide and Seb Larsson was unlucky when he hit the side netting.

But then Sunderland should have defied the odds and drew level when Johnson latched onto a long ball but was denied by Harper as he went one on one with the keeper.

Then the home side saw their best chance of increasing the score escape from them when Livermore fired against the post from 20 yards.

But the home side picked up the points and left Gus Poyet with more than his fair share of problems to worry about before the next game.
