Sunderland Craig Gordon has admitted he is gutted at been axed by Manager Roy Keane.

Gordon was replaced between the sticks by Darren Ward after a dismal performance against Everton where he conceded 7 goals.
Sunderland`s record signing has stated his desire to fight for the goalkeepers jersey

Gordon told the Sunderland Echo ‘It was disappointing not to be in the side for the Derby game. If you are fit, you want to play and I’m no different to anyone else in the squad in that respect.”

‘The Everton game previously was very disappointing for everyone at the club and the manager decided he was going to make some changes – I was one of them.”

‘Now I’ve got to try to get myself back in the team. You have got to pick yourself up and get on with it.”

‘I’ve thought a lot about it but you can’t let it get you down, you’ve got to bounce back and the only way you can do that is by doing your best in training every single day.’

‘I wished Darren all the best when he went in. I train with him every day and I want him to do well because we’re all in this together.”

‘We’re looking forward to Saturday’s game and hopefully we can keep our decent record at home going. We’ve done reasonably well at the Stadium of Light and managed to pick up a few points but the fans are vital because they have a lot to do with the fact that we are decent at home.”

‘It has not happened for us away yet even though we do have a fantastic following. But the supporters really helped us through it against Derby and I’m sure they’ll do the same against Villa and I hope to be involved.’

‘We’ll be tested, but we’ve got the players and the quality to get a good amount of points over the Christmas period to take us higher in the league.”

‘There are a lot of big games and we’ll try to pick up as many points as we can, especially at home and as far as the Villa game goes, I’m fairly confident we can win on Saturday.’

It always nice to see competition for places and hopefully both keepers can help us keep the ball out the net.
