Sunderland are in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas on a permanent basis, according to Sky Sports News.

The 29 year-old central midfielder was linked recently with a loan move to the Stadium of Light, along with team mate Danny Rose who is believed to be close to agreeing a loan move to Wearside.

Jenas has found himself out of the picture at White Hart Lane in recent seasons, spending last season on-loan at Aston Villa, only to damage his knee ligaments on his debut.

A 21 cap England international, Jenas started his career with Nottingham Forest before moving to the Mags where he made over 100 appearances.
After seeing his form tail off towards the end of his time at Sid James` Park, Jenas moved to Tottenham on Transfer Deadline Day 2005 for a fee of £7m.

The Nottingham-born midfielder found his rhythm with the north London outfit and became a regular under Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp.

However, the arrival of the likes of Luka Modric, Rafael Van der Vaart and Wilson Palacios pushed Jenas down the pecking order, and with Andre Villas-Boas adding Gylfi Sigurdsson already this summer, it`s clear Jenas is available.

As soon as official confirmation is available, Vital Sunderland will bring it to you.
