Paraguay Captain Paulo Da Silva has completed his move to Sunderland from Mexican side Toluca on a free transfer.

The centre-back has signed a three year contract with the Black Cats, who completed the signing under the noses of Tottenham Hotspur who were also reportedly keen on the defender.

Da Silva becomes the second signing this week for manager Steve Bruce following the arrival of Frazier Campbell earlier in the week.

The manager had this to say on the new signing:

‘I’m delighted to have signed a player of Paulo’s experience’

‘He is captain of his country and has played at the highest level in South America so will bring leadership qualities to our side’
