There are reports tonight suggesting that Sunderland could face having points docked after it emerged that the club fielded an ineligible player earlier this season.

The club we are being told, have already been fined by the FA for the error which saw South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won play in four games before realising that international clearance had not been given.

Club secretary Liz Coley was dismissed following the administrative error, but the Daily Mail says there is to be a full investigation which could lead to a points deduction, although the club are confident that the matter is now closed.

Ji featured in games against Fulham, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

Sunderland confirmed to ITV Sport tonight: ‘There was an administrative issue regarding the registration of the player. The club was fined by the Premier League and the matter was dealt with at the time.’
