Despite rumours to the contrary, Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill has not resigned from his post as Black Cats’ boss.

The 60 year-old Ulsterman was alleged to have tendered his resignation earlier this evening after talkSPORT broke the rumour.

Fevered speculation broke out on Twitter with more and more sources eager to pour fuel on the fire.

One man who was quick to douse the flames Peter Lansley of the The Times who knew O’Neill from his time at Leicester City.

He tweeted:

@LansleyTimes ‘Martin O’Neill has not and won’t be resigning. End of.’

He followed that up with:

‘Nor has O’Neill offered his resignation. He won’t be doing [so].’

Sky Sports News have also been quick to quash the rumours, saying that Sunderland have been in touch to deny that their Kilrea-born boss had tendered his resignation.

The Black Cats currently sit 16th in the Barclays Premier League table after a third of the season, just three points above the relegation zone.
