Sunderland Defender Greg Halford is hoping for a chance to claim a regular first team place beginning with the game against West Ham.

Halford has struggled for form since Roy Keane signed him from Reading in the summer.

The young defender wants to prove a point if he is given a chance on Sunday. He told safc.com

“If I’m given a chance I’ve got to grab it with both hands, it could be my last chance.”

“I lacked a bit of confidence when I came here after my experience at Reading but that is in the past, I feel like I’m beginning to find my old form.”

“I’m at a bigger club and there is more expectation but I’m feeling a lot better now and I want to be more positive.”

“Confidence is a big thing, it’s a major part of football and maybe I have lacked a bit. But I feel much better and there is a lot more to come from me.”

“It will be a tough game at West Ham but I’m really looking forward to it, everyone is. I hope to be playing.’

I hope the lad can turn the corner and prove the doubters wrong. He has been in shocking form this season and at least he has had the guts to come out and admit he hasn`t been at his best so far this season. I admire him for his honesty and hope he can start and put in some promising performances or I can see Keano shipping him out.
