Veteran defender Alan Stubbs has called for the Sunderland faithful to get behind the team, rather than on them!

Some fans have been booing individual players after a bad start to the season and Stubbs says that such behaviour will only have a negative effect on the team.

We win as a team and we lose as a team. It’s not an individual thing when people get criticised. It’s not right. In fact, it’s wrong.’

‘We’re all disappointed. We all get frustrated. If I was a fan I’d be frustrated, but that frustration leaks out onto the pitch and it can only have a detrimental effect on the players.’

Some fans would argue it’s their right to criticise in whatever fashion they feel comfortable with as they pay their money and players earn such substantial amounts in wages. More would say if the team was doing it’s job fans wouldn’t be criticising.
