Youth striker Kevin Smith has joined League two side Wrexham on a month’s loan.

The former Leeds youth forward has seen his chances of first team football restricted with several experienced strikers ahead of him in the pecking order on Wearside.

The Scot has yet to make a first team appearance for Sunderland after joining from Leeds United’s youth academy in January.

But Wrexham boss and former Sunderland gaffer Dennis Smith is confident of Smith’s potential,

‘I was first recommended the lad when he was at Leeds, but Sunderland paid a fee to take to the north-east earlier this year.

‘Sunderland don’t have a reserve side this season, so he is not getting a game at the moment. Hopefully, this will be good opportunity for Kevin to come in and show what he can do.

‘They have also agreed for him to be available for our FA Cup tie against Stevenage, which in our current position with strikers, is a big bonus.’
